Tips for New Yorkers in Preparation for the RNC

SSC advises New Yorkers to expect major delays due to sporadic street closures
and check points throughout the four-day event. The company also advises
individuals who will be in New York City during the RNC to:
- Carry a picture ID, driver's license and work ID at all times.
- Prepare a Disaster Supply Kit or "Go Bag" complete with flashlight, extra batteries, battery-powered radio, food, water, medications, tools and supplies.
- Explore alternate routes for getting to and from work, home.
- Seek immediate refuge indoors if you come upon an unexpected demonstration of activists.
- Observe all entrances and exits when you enter buildings.
- Have alternative arrangements made for child pick-up, elder care, pet care should you be unavoidably delayed.
If a Terrorist Attack Should Occur During the RNC
SSC advises New Yorkers to be alert and aware in the event of a terrorist attack.
Here is advice for various scenarios:
Biological
- Leave area as quickly as possible covering mouth and nose with layers of fabric to filter air but allow breathing.
- If exposed discard clothes as soon as possible; wash with soap and water; seek medical attention.
Chemical
- Be aware if people around you are suffering from watery eyes, choking, difficulty breathing, loss of coordination.
- Be aware of sick or dead birds or small animals.
- Leave area as quickly as possible.
- If the chemical attack is inside a building, move as far away from the contaminated area as possible, creating a barrier between yourself & contaminated air.
Dirty Bomb
- Move as far below ground as possible.
- It's important to protect yourself from a nuclear attack with as thick a protective shield as you can find.
